Armed thug strikes at Coat­bridge firm

A mem­ber of staff at an Airdrie busi­ness was left“badly shaken”af­ter be­ing threat­ened by a tat­tooed thug bran­dish­ing a knife and ham­mer dur­ing a ter­ri­fy­ing robbery.

The thief struck at the News Di­rect site on Sa­line Street at 1.35am last Tues­day morn­ing.

Af­ter threat­en­ing the male staff mem­ber, the armed rob­ber made off in a com­pany ve­hi­cle – a white Nis­san NV200 van with the reg­is­tra­tion num­ber SK65 UGA.

The van was then driven through Airdrie’s Deedes Street and Muiry­hall Street, Kil­do­nan Street, Dun­beth Road and Burn­bank Street in Coat­bridge, be­fore be­ing aban­doned in the town’s Cameron Street.

Po­lice re­cov­ered the ve­hi­cle and it is “un­der­go­ing a full foren­sic ex­am­i­na­tion”.

Coat­bridge de­tec­tives have re­vealed the staff mem­ber was “un­in­jured, but badly shaken as a re­sult of the robbery”and their en­quiries are on­go­ing.

The sus­pect is de­scribed as white, in his mid-20s, 5ft 7in tall and of slim build.

He had a tat­too on the right side of his head, above his ear, and was wear­ing a green hooded top and black track­suit trousers.
