Vis­i­tors to Mon­k­lands Hos­pi­tal can be trained in life­sav­ing CPR skills on Fri­day.

Ex­perts will be run­ning ses­sions in the en­trance area of the Air­drie hos­pi­tal from 9am to 5pm, ahead of Tues­day’s global “restart a heart” day.

The event s a re tak­ing place at all three La­nark­shire acute hos­pi­tals as well as at schools and sports cen­tres as staff from NHS La­nark­shire, the Scot­tish Am­bu­lance Ser­vice and Scot­tish Fire and Res­cue aim to teach 1000 peo­ple CPR tech­niques.

Clin­i­cal skills spe­cial­ist Mon­ica Love said: “Restart a heart is a des­ig­nated an­nual day of ac­tion to teach vi­tal life- sav­ing skills to as many peo­ple as pos­si­ble; we’re join­ing forces to train as many mem­bers of the pub­lic and school­child­ren as we can.”

Sev­enty peo­ple in Scot­land ev­ery week have a car­diac ar­rest ; and Mon­ica added: “By­stander CPR can dou­ble and even tre­ble sur­vival rates.

“By in­creas­ing the num­ber of po­ten­tial life­savers we hope this will lead to bet­ter out­comes for vic­tims. Please come along to learn CPR – it means that one day you will be able to save some­one’s life.”
