New order for breach yob

-

A man who attempted to force entry into a Coatbridge home before struggling with its elderly occupants has admitted breaching the community payback order he received for his crime.

Steven Marshall, 20, was given the order last December after the incident which occurred in March of that year.

With an accomplice, Marshall, of Castlemilk, attended Aitkenhead Avenue and began striking the door of a property with an unknown implement.

He then damaged the door by kicking it and continued to try and gain access inside.

Marshall was then confronted by two people in their 60s and a younger man who lived there; and ended up struggling violently with the trio, placing them, “in a state of fear and alarm”.

Police attended and Marshall was then taken to Coatbridge police office.

After admitting his guilt, Marshall was made a partial prisoner in his own home by being tagged for two months.

But he appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week to face up to a new punishment after breaching the order.

His defence solicitor said: “There are some concerns about his ability to engage with a community payback order given his history.”

Sheriff Frank Pieri said: “I’m prepared to give you one final chance.

“I’ll impose a fresh restriction of liberty order from now for four months.

“You must remain in your home from 7am to 7pm every day as an alternative to custody.”

Assaulted two police officers

A Coatbridge woman is facing the prospect of a prison sentence after admitting the assault of two police officers.

Stephanie Kelly, 28, acted up on Ellis Street in March this year.

The Dixon Street resident punched a male constable on the head and then kicked him on the body.

She also kicked a second male constable on the body.

But due to a lack of reports, Black was unable to be sentenced at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week

Defence solicitor Paul Kelly said the lack of reports was “through no fault of her own” and that she’s been in “regular contact” with the social work department.

Sheriff Frank Pieri said: “On this occasion I’ll defer for three weeks to allow for the reports to be gathered.

“Make sure you make an appointment before you leave court today. “I’ll see you back here on October 31 and you must appear.”

Supervision for repeat offender

An Airdrie woman who pled guilty to stealing alcohol and cosmetics earlier this year has been placed under supervision.

Alana Poyner, 37, of Target Road, took alcohol from Airdrie’s Aldi on June 25.

On the same day, she took cosmetic items from Boots in the town centre.

The cosmetic items she took were of a value of £85.90 and fully recovered by police; however the alcohol, which was worth £26.25, wasn’t.

Her defence solicitor, Roberto Manini, said: “My client seems to be off drugs and the report states the social work department is hopeful she’ll engage in a community payback order.

A frustrated Sheriff Frank Pieri said: “This is a positive report, yet here you are again with the same old story.

“I’ll place you under supervision for 18 months and you must do as your supervising officer tells you.

Due to your background I’ll have reviews from your officer and if you aren’t complying you know what will happen.

“The first review will be fixed for November 8.”

Tried to kiss woman

A Coatbridge man who assaulted a woman and tried to kiss her on the lips will return to court at the end of the month.

Sean Fagen, 33, repeatedly kissed the woman on the cheek during an incident at the BP garage on Coatbridge Main Street in May.

The Hospital Street resident will now return to court for stepping over the line after a restriction of liberty order assessment has been completed.

He’ll appear back at court on October 31.

Smashed opolice car window

A Coatbridge yob who was arrested after damaging the door of a property smashed the window of the police car he was taken away in.

Steven Mills, 20, “recklessly damaged” the entrance to the house in Cumbernauld on June 9.

He then behaved in a threatening and abusive manner on the path outside with a spree of shouting and swearing.

Mi l l s , w h o was acting wi t h an accomplice, then headbutted his way through the rear window of the police vehicle he was in.

Mills appeared from custody due to the fact the is currently serving a sentence imposed at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

The Dunnotar Place resident, who is coming to the end of his sentence, will now appear back at Airdrie Sheriff Court once reports have been completed.

He was then confronted by people who lived there; and ended up struggling violently with the trio
