Council‘s award for LGBT support
Schools and services across Monklands have helped North Lanarkshire’s education, youth and communities service to gain charter- mark status from LGBT Youth Scotland.
The foundation- level award is in recognition of the support offered to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pupils and staff.
It was presented by LGBT Youth Scotland representatives Cara Spence and Graeme Lea-Ross, and follows 18 months of work across the authority.
Council assistant chief executive Isabelle Boyd said: “A staff survey showed that homophobic, biphobic or transphobic bullying was an issue, so we organised training and awareness events to increase personal knowledge and commitment to supporting colleagues.
“The award recognises work undertaken by education, youth and communities to support the LGBT community.”
Awarding panel members praised “consistency of messages” across the council and “consistent and constant activities and events to keep LGBT on the agenda”.
