Top scarecrows steal the show
It was eerily quiet in Plains with not a bird in sight when scarecrows of all descriptions descended on the village earlier this month.
Beverley Park estate residents of all ages surpassed themselves with a magnificent number of entries at this year’s fantastic scarecrow festival.
Creative kids produced an amazing array of their favourite characters for the competition, which was once again organised by the residents’association.
The day attracted both adults and children alike to enjoy the delicious fayre, as well as arts and crafts, face painting, and guess the name of the scarecrow, with Airdrie North councillor Alan Beveridge acting as head judge.
The Wizard of Oz display including Dorothy and of course the scarecrow on their way to the Emerald City took the top prize.
And Fred and Wilma Flintstone featured in Fred’s infamous footmobile were awarded second place, with the shark song snapping at their heels in third.
Beverley Park kid, Harris Mason, made an arresting appearance with his dad’s New York police car, complete with a giant scarecrow cop.
And the triumphant winners had a close encounter of a feathered kind with some spectacular birds of prey, courtesy of the World of Wings centre in Cumbernauld.
A representative from the residents’association said:“It was a total success and the children and adults enjoyed every minute. We had food, cakes, arts and crafts, guess the name of the scarecrow, face painters the works.
“The weather was also kind; what a great day was had by all.”
