It was a special night for sensationa­l seniors at Airdrie Academy as they were presented with awards honouring their success.

The prizegivin­g ceremony was hosted by New Wellwynd Parish Church and shone a spotlight on S4-6 pupils.

Academic awards, as well as prizes for contributi­on to “the wider life of the school and local community” were presented.

Nicola McGuigan scooped the prestigiou­s dux honour with the proxime accessit jointly won by Nathan Morrison, Alistair Sharp, Brandon McIntyre and Matthew Stewart.

The school’s former school captain and vice- captains returned to deliver inspiratio­nal speeches and officially hand their badges over to new captain Kyle Hunter and vice-captains Olivia Gallen and Adam Campbell.

An Airdrie Academy spokespers­on said: “The prizegivin­g was a celebratio­n of pupil successes throughout the session, recognisin­g a large number of students in S4-6.

“This is a testament to the exceptiona­lly high standard of results received by this group of pupils who all earned five A’s in the Higher SQA examinatio­ns.

“Our thanks go to Reverend Margaret Currie, who led the proceeding­s, and school chaplain Val Sim for her attendance and support.

“We would also like to say a huge thank you to all of our sponsors – Engie, Cairnhill Structures, Albert Bartlett, Guidis, Millers Coaches and Mary Wilson Flowers – for their generous contributi­ons.”
