Confusion at home form

-

Fan blog: Airdrieonians The boost of a win at Montrose and a new manager in place.

I had a spring in my step on Saturday morning.

Reading the positive words from Ian Murray in the programme increased my optimism.

“Fast, direct football with controlled possession”– at last.

That optimism quickly went as we looked feckless from the start.

I have yet to see real control or passing moves at home this season and Saturday was no different.

Stenny were defensively strong and several scything fouls on Victoria throughout the game stopped one of our main threats.

The real problem appears to be a snail-paced midfield which is so far away from the forwards.

This means the opposition are very rarely troubled.

One good header from Crighton and a few scrambles in the second half made it look like we might take the lead.

An excellent move saw Wilkie head home but the linesman’s flag wiped that out in the second half.

We then fell asleep in the dying embers of the game as Mark McGuigan slammed home the winner.

That was their first away goal this season and ultimately it was their small travelling band going home happy.

I remain bemused at our plummeting home form.
