Santa back on the road

Sleigh tour gets set to start

- Judith Tonner

Santa’s sleigh is ready to return to the streets of Monklands as residents prepare for one of the area’s favourite Christmas traditions.

Volunteers from Xact will begin their annual sleigh tour on Sunday, beginning with a half-hour stop at the town’s branch of Tesco in Faraday Retail Park.

Its first outing will then be around Coatbridge that afternoon and evening.

Santa will be visiting the area around Caldervale High on his second trip of the festive season on Tuesday evening.

Excited residents of all ages can also track Santa during his three Monklands trips per week at http:// Glympse. com/! Round Table Santa and all the latest updates on sleigh routes will be posted on the XACT Santa Facebook page.

Xact chairman Gordon Millar told the Advertiser: “We’re excited to get back out on the road with Santa this year.

“The sleigh is always in great demand all over Airdrie and Coatbridge.

“We’re limited by the number of volunteers, weather, road conditions, traffic and pedestrian concerns and time available when we have Santa on his sleigh but we’re aiming to get round as many places as we can.

“If Santa and his sleigh can’t make it to a street we’d love to see people at an area nearby and we also have static locations on the Sundays when families can pop along to say hello to Santa.”

Xact’s volunteers are being supported by Fleet bid, who are providing a van and volunteer driver and are also assisting the group to distributes of the hundreds of donations already pouring in for the Advertiser’s annual toy appeal.
