Man fac­ing knives charge

A Coat­bridge man, ar­rested af­ter armed po­lice stopped a car in a busy res­i­den­tial street, has ap­peared in court on charges of pos­sess­ing knives and hav­ing a bald tyre on his car.

Wil­liam Hendry, 41, was held fol­low­ing an in­ci­dent in Dundee on Novem­ber 18 in which cops – seen on cam­era point­ing firearms at the ve­hi­cle he was al­legedly driv­ing – pulled over a mo­tor be­fore mak­ing ar­rests.

Hendry, of Witch­wood Cour t , faced t h re e charges dur­ing a brief pri­vate hear­ing on pe­ti­tion at Dundee Sher­iff Court last week.

The first charge al­leges he was in pos­ses­sion of a knife, while the sec­ond al­leges he was in pos­ses­sion of two fur­ther knives.

A third charge al­leges that the car he was said to be driv­ing had less than a mil­lime­tre of tread on it when he was pulled over.

Hendry made no plea dur­ing the short hear­ing.

Solic­i­tor ad­vo­cate Kris Gil­martin, for Hendry, asked for his client to be re­leased on bail.

Sher­iff Tom Hughes con­tin­ued the case for fur­ther ex­am­i­na­tion and re­leased Hendry on bail pend­ing fur­ther court dates be­ing set.

Two other men ar­rested dur­ing the armed po­lice op­er­a­tion were re­leased with­out mak­ing an ap­pear­ance in court.
