Muirhead butcher S Collins & Son earned an impressive runner- up award at the butcher’s shop of the year awards in London.

The family business came second in the “Scotland” category, in what was the fifth successive year that the firm has reached the industry finals.

Judges were impressed by their marketing innovations, including a gold loyalty card scheme for customers and development of an app sharing promotions, news and recipes.

Owner Stewart Collins said: “We were delighted to make it to the final for the fifth time in a row and very proud to be named as one of the three best butcher shops in Scotland.

“Coming second means we have something to strive for next year – we’re always pushing to improve so this will keep us on our toes, and we have lots planned for 2019.”

It was the year’s third industry award for the 60-year-old firm, following a Scottish craft butchers’ diamond award and the “best family business” accolade at the Glasgow business awards.
