Horseshoe stay top with emphatic win

Victory opens gap at top of table

- Judith Tonner

The Horseshoe continued their dominance of Airdrie and District Darts League with a convincing 10-2 win over The Boarshead.

Phil McBride got the show on the road with a 19-dart win and Graham Anderson then took four darts fewer in one of his legs.

Derek Cunningham fired in a 16 and a 20 while Tam Smith showed his old form with a 16 which included a 180.

Scott Bailey had a 20 and a 21 while Andy Thompson matched the achievement of Smith.

It was all too much for a Boarshead team who, try as they might, were unable to overcome a darting mountain.

Workmens B won 8-4 at Wilson Arms while the West End took a point from guests The Workmens A in a 6-6 draw.

Laura Pearson continues to impress but the star player for the Westenders was Gerry Houston with an 18-dart win which included a maximum.

Best for the Workies was Rab McFadyean with a 19- darter in a match that the visitors will consider as a point lost.

The Swan had a good performance against Coatbridge challengers the Bank Club, winning 9-3.

Kriss Ross had a 180 in his 10-dart win for the Bankies but the home side soon fired in the rockets.

Lauchie Black had a 180 in a 19dart win while Alex Gordon won in 20, and Gordon Lachlan also had a 20-dart win in a match which saw The Swan emerge as comfortable winners.

The Clansman put an SOS out during the week for local players to bolster their depleted squad, so the Barnyard must have fancied their chances when they made the trip to Caldercruix.

Ricky Grant fired in a 15-darter for The Barnyard but missed doubles let the home side back into the tie.

Peter Lynch’s 17- dart win tied the match after the singles games, meaning there was everything to play for. However, the visitors only managed to triumph in one of the pairs matches and both points stayed in Caldercruix with a 7- 5 win for Clansman.

With The Post v The Eagle being postponed until the new year, The Horseshoe have opened up a threepoint gap at the top of the league table with their 100 per cent record still intact.

They are ahead of fellow unbeaten sides The Post and Workmen’s B, the latter having a game in hand.
