Donation to Alzheimer

- Ian Bunting

A Coatbridge building society enlisted the help of customers, the town’s MSP and Santa Claus himself to mark its 40th anniversary.

Nationwide also used the celebration to make a terrific £1925 donation to charity Alzheimer Scotland and launch its annual Christmas toy appeal.

For the past four decades, the facility’s team of hard-working staff have developed “close, friendly relationships” with their customers at its Main Street home.

Throughout the day of anniversary festivities, customers, and Coatbridge MSP Fulton MacGregor, were treated to tea and cake.

The building society’s Karen Cullen told the Advertiser: “The day was fantastic and very successful; we had a top turnout.

“We had lots of customers come in to join in the celebration as well as Mr MacGregor, who was very complimentary.

“Our staff, some of whom came in on their day off, got to do some training with Alzheimer Scotland representatives before handing over our donation to the charity.

“We put on sandwiches, tea and coffee and had a special anniversary cake for everyone to enjoy.”

Speaking on Nationwide’s longevity in Coatbridge, Karen, who has worked at the branch for 16 years, added: “To be at the same site for 40 years is a wonderful achievement, especially during decades where quite a few banks and building societies have closed down.

“Some of the girls have worked here for 35 years and we have a really great team of staff.

“Our customers know all of us by name and like to have a chat with us before taking their money out.

“The rapport we have had with customers over the past 40 years is a testament to the strength of the service we provide.”

Nationwide Coatbridge has also now launched its Christmas toy appeal with items being collected for Monklands Women’s Aid for a second consecutive year.

Karen said: “We managed to collect a good number of items last year and hope that our customers, and members of the Coatbridge community, can help us do even better this time.

“Items can be handed into the branch and we will be delivering them to Monklands Women’s Aid later this month.”
