Butcher filling good for finals date

Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser - - News - Ian Bunting

A Muirhead butcher is hoping to give the competition a pasting after it was shortlisted for a place in the prestigious Scotch Pie world championship finals.

S Collins & Son will take its place alongside the finest firms from across the country at the Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld in January.

The Lindsaybeg Roadbased business warmed the hearts and stomachs of more than 50 professional judges at a tasting event in Dunfermline.

Each tasty treat was sampled and judged on its “appearance, quality, consistency and taste”.

Head judge Ian Nelson said: “More than 80 butchers and bakers entered close to 500 of their best products into 11 categories this year and the competition has been fierce, so S Collins & Sons can be proud to have come this far.”

Alasdair Smith, chief executive of Scottish Bakers, added: “The awards are the only competition of this kind recognising excellence in the preparation of a perfect pie.

“The competition is now a regular fixture as butchers and bakers vie for pie supremacy.”
