Rovers unable to overcome the Blue Brazil

-

Albion Rovers .. 1 Cowdenbeath .. 1 It was a tale of two penalties at the Reigart Stadium on Saturday as Albion Rovers and Cowdenbeath drew.

Rovers’Jamie Gallagher netted from the spot after only 10 minutes for Kevin Harper’s side after Lewis Wilson was brought down by keeper David McGurn.

But that was cancelled out only 10 minutes later when Josh Skelly found the bottom corner from 12 yards after Alan Murdoch fouled Kyle Miller.

Gary Fisher attempted to give the home side the lead again only a few minutes later but his strike from the edge of the box was just too high to trouble McGurn.

Cowdenbeath pressed for a second throughout the first half and created numerous chances just after the half-hour mark.

A flurry of four corners in three minutes meant Rovers had to remain resolute, which they did.

Morrison did well to stop a Jordan Allan shot from the centre of the box that looked like it might nestle in the corner.

Rovers’ Wilson roamed forward with only a few minutes of the first half remaining, but his effort sailed high and wide of the goal.

Kris Renton and Robbie Buchanan both had efforts thwarted at the start of the second half before Allan had another effort blocked just after the hour mark.

Graham Gracie replaced Lewis McLear as Rovers sought a way to break down their counterparts.

Jamie Watson nearly found it with a right-footed effort from a tight angle but his radar was slightly askew.

Gerard Escuriola then attempted to get himself on the scoresheet but his effort from the edge of the box didn’t trouble McGurn.

Cowdenbeath were reduced to 10 men with 82 minutes played when Buchanan fouled Gallagher.

But Rovers couldn’t capitalise on the advantage and indeed it was Cowdenbeath who nearly snatched it from a Robbie Deas header, but his effort from close range went wide.
