Team lacking quality up top

- Albion Rovers

Kevin Harper gained his first point as Rovers boss on Saturday as we battled to a 1-1 draw with Cowdenbeath.

It’s only good enough to maintain the gap between ourselves and Berwick Rangers at eight points – and we have Clyde to thank for that.

In short, we really need to start taking three points from games like this and put pressure on the teams above us.

I’m sure the manager will have assessed his squad and come to the same conclusion as the fans – we are sorely lacking quality in some key areas.

Once again, a needless penalty was conceded as a result of poor defending and we lack a goal threat going forward.

Even when Cowdenbeath were reduced to 10 men late on, it didn’t seem like we had the tools at our disposal to take advantage and grab the win.

Rovers now have two away games at the start of the festive period and we have to get something from those to keep our slim hopes of avoiding bottom spot alive.

First up is the long trip up the A9 to face an Elgin side who started the season well but have now lost three games on the bounce.

This might be a good time to play them and I’m sure the manager will be keen to emphasise that we need to capitalise on their recent poor form.

We simply can’t afford to give them an easy ride.

After that, it’s a much shorter trip to Forthbank Stadium to face Stirling Albion – the only team we have beaten this season.

We triumped 3-0 at the Reigart Stadium on that occasion with Lewis McLear and Ryan Watters scoring.

A repeat of that is needed.
