Top dogs do battle as darts league hots up

This week’s district darts fixtures produced some tight games, but none more so than the top-of-the-table clash in Calderbank between hosts The Post and The Horseshoe.

Paul Cushen got the home side off to a great start with a 180 and followed that up with a 21-dart victory.

The Horseshoe fought back and Graham Anderson fired an 18-dart win that included a 122 checkout.

Alan Thompson put the visitors in front with 18 and 21-dart finishes, but Chris Flockhart brought The Post back into the match with 19 and 21-dart wins.

Stuart Ferguson kept home voices strong with a 16-dart win but The Horseshoe went into the break in front thanks to a 110 checkout from Graham Anderson.

Despite holding their own in the pairings, The Post were beaten to the punch 7-5 in a tie of high standards.

The Barnyard won the Coatbridge bragging rights after defeating their opponents The Eagle 7-5.

In a game that swung either way, Davie Gemmill threw the best leg for the visitors as he impressed with 18 darts.

However, The Barnyard are now beginning to catch eyes as they climb the table.

Workmens B are still struggling to find points but managed to secure a win against The Clansman by the same scoreline.

Ian Gibb and Davie Cunningham helped put them 4-0 up but The Clansman took three of the last four singles games and the first two pairs games to frighten the home team and make it 5-5.

But Workmens B ran riot in the last two games to take valuable poin ts.

The Bank Club held on for a win against The Boarshead who remain second-bottom and are in urgent need of positive results.

The Wilson Arms won away at The West End Bar, with Steven Young scoring an impressive 180.

The Swan were defeated 8-4 by Workmens A in a mid-table clash.

The Workies were 6-0 up before their opponents found their rhythm and sealed the win with strong performanc­es throughout.
