More jobs in store at new science base
Medicity facility is Scottish first
A pharmaceutical storage facility which is the first of its kind in Scotland has opened at Chapelhall site Medicity.
Roylance Stability Storage have opened a unit housing temperature and humidity- controlled walk- in chambers, used to store products including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, vaccines and medical devices.
Four jobs have been created with another two posts to be created in the next year.
The company provides customers with detailed and real-time data on products being stored in conditions replicating environments from around the world, including high humidity and temperature combinations.
It is part of the Biocity facility at Lancaster Avenue, which houses specialist bioscience laboratories and offices for a growing range of companies and start-ups.
Roylance received a £3000 grant from North Lanarkshire Council, which provides funding alongside Scottish Enterprise as part of the Glasgow city region deal, to develop its website and digital marketing.
Operations director Marieanne Miller said: “The support we’ve received from North Lanarkshire Council has been fantastic.
“The funding has allowed us to create a new website, offer our clients new methods of paying accounts and create some marketing material.
“It’s been a real boost to our business growth, enabling us to promote our state-of-the-art storage facility to the wider industry.
“We’re already reaping the benefits and the process for funding was quick, efficient and friendly.”
Council enterprise convener Allan Graham attended the official opening at the new facility and cut a ribbon alongside business development director Ben Roylance.
He said: “North Lanarkshire’s strong tradition of heavy industries like coal and steel have all but gone, replaced with modern, high- tech industries like life sciences.
“Roylance Storage is a great example of a cutting-edge business operating in a fast moving and dynamic industry and it’s testament to the superb facilities at Medicity that they were attracted to open this world-leading facility here.
“We are confident that North Lanarkshire will continue to attract more life science businesses and high-quality jobs.”
