Warm thanks for winter jackets cash

-

Monklands youngsters benefited from a kind donation made by the Coatbridge branch of Asda to children’s charity Spirit Aid.

Staff at the Main Street supermarket handed over a cheque for £200 – which was used to buy winter jackets for children in Airdrie and Coatbridge.

Asda manager Stephen MacFarlane, left, and community colleague Mary Haley handed over the donation to Spirit Aid representative Patrick Rolink.

The volunteer charity coordinator told the Advertiser: “Asda had seen the work we do locally and wanted to help out.

“We’re really delighted that they wanted to help and that we’re working together for a common goal; the winter jackets we gave out were much appreciated.”

Patrick added: “Spirit Aid had recently donated £500 to the sensory room at Airdrie FC, and we also help with local soup kitchens and other charities.

“At the moment we’re working to give out a lot of food parcels, including to groups like Women’s Aid for those they help.

“Many people find January a tough month after Christmas; and we’re also seeing the effects of the introduction of Universal Credit.

“We’re also now building up to the Kiltwalk in April, which is Spirit Aid’s biggest fundraiser of the year; 50 people from Monklands took part for us last year and in total our supporters raised £30,000.

“This year we’re hoping to raise even more.”
