Murray: Leighton underlines strength

-

Airdrieonians boss Ian Murray believes the success of Leighton McIntosh shows the strength of the Diamonds squad.

The 25-year-old bagged his seventh goal of the season against East Fife to close the gap on third spot in League One.

The in-form striker has been impressive in recent weeks and headed in his third goal in the last two games.

He has kept the likes of top scorer Joao Victoria, forward Dale Carrick and veteran Darryl Duffy out of the starting line-up.

Diamonds boss Murray told the Advertiser:“Leighton is a player who has worked really hard for me since I came in.

“He has brought a real physical presence that is different to the other players we have, and is now getting the goals to match that.

“For me, his success shows the benefit of having a good squad.

“When you look at the quality on the bench it’s very good for League One.”
