Gartcairn boss Jamie McKenzie has challenged his players to go on and win the West Region League One title after derby day heartbreak against Wishaw.

An equaliser in the closing stages saw the league leaders drop two points to their North Lanarkshire neighbours in an entertaining 4-4 draw.

MTC Park gaffer McKenzie admits it is the first time he has had to “have a go” at the players after they let the lead slip three times.

However, he is optimistic about the rest of the campaign as Cairn hold a slender threepoint lead at the top of the table.

“It’s two points dropped for us, definitely,” McKenzie told the Advertiser. “With less than five minutes to go it was a cruel way to draw the game.

“I can’t be too harsh on the boys, but it’s the first time this season I have had to have a go and a heart-to-heart with them in the dressing room to let them know I was disappointed.

“They have been so good for me this season, but I am looking for us to win at least 10 of the remaining 12 league games.

“That’s what I think we will need to make sure we win the league.”
