Town centre attack was in broad daylight

Police are appealing for informatio­n after a man was injured following a“serious assault”in broad daylight by two men in Airdrie town centre.

The 46-year-old was making his way to Morrisons supermarke­t at around 3.35pm on Sunday, June 23, when he was approached and then attacked by the culprits in the lane near Adam Avenue.

Emergency services were called and the victim was treated for facial injuries in hospital before being released.

The first suspect is described as being in his mid-20s, white, around 5ft 10, of heavy build with short black hair; he was wearing a black jumper, black jogging bottoms and black Adidas trainers.

The second suspect was in his mid-20s, white, around 5ft, of slim build and wearing a blue tracksuit top, black Adidas jogging bottoms with white Adidas stripes on the side.

Detective Constable Paul James, of Coatbridge CID, said“This was a violent attack on a vulnerable man and we are currently doing everything we can to trace those responsibl­e.

“Officers are currently checking CCTV in the area, however we would ask anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the incident to get in touch with us - you may have informatio­n that can help.

“The area would have been busy on Sunday afternoon with many people in Morrisons getting their shopping; think back? Do you remember seeing anyone matching the descriptio­ns?”
