All bright on the night for walkers

Standing out from a crowd proved to be no problem at all for Monklands fundraisers involved in St Andrew’s Hospice’s Midnight Walk.
The 11th annual event saw 673 participants don their brightest outfits and headgear to complete the night-time stroll.
They started at Ravenscraig regional sports facility and continued through Carfin, New Stevenston, Holytown, Mossend and Motherwell.
Walkers took part in a Clubbercise warm-up led by Nicola McAleenan from Clubbercise Motherwell, and danced along with radio presenter Gina McKie before being piped to the starting line by Airdrie Boys’ Brigade and the Coatbridge & District Battalion Pipe Band.
John Brady, the hospice’s head of fundraising, said: “We were delighted that so many men and women from across Lanarkshire took part in our Midnight Walk.
“I met many people who, as well as walking to raise money for the hospice, were also walking in memory of a loved one.
“I would like to offer a huge thanks to everyone who walked or sponsored a walker; and also to the army of volunteers who helped us physically make the walk happen.
“We rely on the generosity of kind- hearted people in Lanarkshire in order to fully fund the care we provide.”
The hospice would also like to thank everyone who helped make the event such a success, including Big Bright Letters, Brakes, Fyffes, Asda Coatbridge and Motherwell, Tesco Coatbridge, Jamieson Event Photography and Chronicle Photography.
Next year’s Midnight Walk will take place on Saturday, June 13; follow St Andrew’s Hospice on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for further details.
