Drumps big derby called off
The Lanarkshire derby between Drumpellier Cricket Club and Uddingston had to be called off due to heavy rain.
Drumpellier won the toss and decided to bat with a doubtful sky above.
With constant intermittent showers from the start the umpire refused to pull the players off at any time.
With a wet pitch Drumpellier were soon 6-1 when Nathan Allison was bowled for two, and it was soon 20-2 when Gordon Shaw was caught.
Gayan Manneshan and Jordan Pryde went for ducks to leave Drumpellier 23-4.
Although the wickets stopped falling the runs were hard to come by on a wet wicket, with only 18 runs of 12 overs.
Humza Sabri went for 11 leaving Drumpellier 37-5 and it was soon 49-6 then 49-7 with Chris Keltie making seven and Will Leslie both out.
Zeeshan Aziz and Mohsin Khan then made a partnership of 24, before Khan went for 10.
Then a 18 partnership between Aziz and Josh Allison of 18 took the total to 97, before Allison went for seven LBW.
Darren Pryde went the same way LBW to leave Drumpellier 97 all out.
After the break Uddingston took the field of play and it was soon 0-1 in the first over with the first ball by Pryde.
Uddingston were nearly 0-2 in the same over when Singh looked plum LBW but the umpire didn’t give it.
The Lanarkshire rivals recovered from the shock and were 13-1 at the end of the fourth over, when the umpire stopped the match for safety reasons with lightning flashing in the sky.
A few minutes later the heavens opened and it rained for over a hour when the sun came out the DLR score was to be 46 in the next 16 overs.
It started to rain then went off but after an inspection it was found that the square and the run ups were under a small bit of water and too dangerous to bowl and the match was abandoned at 5.30pm
The second XI where hammered by St Ninian’s by 159 runs with the saints making 258-6 in 50 overs but the Langloan side could only make 103 set a target of 262 in 48 overs. Drumpellier travel to Glenpark in Greenock on Saturday with a midday first ball.
