Harper: We didn’t look to bring back Reid

-

Boss Kevin Harper doesn’t believe legend Alan Reid would have fit Albion Rovers current style of play.

Reid (pictured), who made over 400 appearance for the Coatbridge outfit over a 12 year period, spent last season at Stenhousemuir but was released at the end of his deal.

The 30-year-old has now joined Edusport in the Lowland League after his exit from the relegated League One side.

Harper admits they decided not to make a move to bring the future Hall of Fame inductee back to Cliftonhill as didn’t think he would be the right fit with the revamped squad.

“For me it’s not about where they have played before it’s if they are good enough,”he told the Advertiser.

“I want them to be the type of player that can come in and do a job for us.

“It doesn’t matter if they have played for this club or any other club. We will have a look at them and decided if they are going to suit they way we want to play and what we want to achieve this season.”

“I need players that are going to fit into the budget we have and the system we want to play this season. They need to be the best fit for the club and it doesn’t really matter if they were here before.

“If the don’t fit in with the budget or the way we want to play I’m not prepared to bring them in.”

The club have brought in veteran Stenhousemuir midfielder Nicki Paterson for the new season.

The 34-year-old featured for Rovers in the pre-season friendly with East Fife before being snapped up by Kevin Harper.

Nick Mullen has signed on with the reserve side for the news season.
