Boost for foodbank
Airdrie foodbank volunteers received a massive boost with cash donations totalling £6000 plus an influx of food collections ahead of the busy Christmas period.
The charity received a £3000 donation from the Truemark Trust, as well as £880 from the Gregg Foundation North East.
Eurocentral-based Morgan Sindall also raised £700 from a series of charity events, while the recent donations also included £630 from Leeds Building Society Foundation.
There was a further £355 from Scotmid and £175 from Headlam Flooring – and the winner of a competition at Harris Travels donated the £250 prize as well as an additional £50 to the foodbank.
Meanwhile, generous pupils and staff at Rochsolloch, All Saints, St Serf’s, Hilltop, Corpus Christi and Mavisbank schools all carried out bumper food collections to boost the charity’s stocks; as did the players of ACES netball club, based at Caldervale, and customers at the Airdrie branches of Tesco and Vets 4 Pets.
Foodbank volunteers have thanked all those who made donations over the festive period to help maintain stocks at an especially busy time of year.
Its manager, David Findlay, said:“The donations were a great boost to our funds and food stocks, and not only a great end to the year but an indication of a bright start to 2020.
“All this couldn’t happen without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers who work so hard to ensure the success of the service – but we always have room for more.
