Baby boy first to be born in new decade
Meet Monklands’ first foot for 2020 – bouncing baby boy Zachary John Coyle.
His birth shortly after 9am on January 1 made him the first baby of the new decade at Lanarkshire’s maternity unit. Zachary picked his moment to make his entrance into the world, keeping mum Lisa waiting 11 days past his due date to be born on the first day of the year.

The bouncing baby boy was born at 9.09am on January 1, making it an especially happy new year for delighted mum Lisa, of Coatbridge.
He weighed in at 7lb 4oz when he made his big arrival at Wishaw General Hospital only a few hours after the bells rang out to herald the start of 2020.
Zachary took his time over making his bow, keeping his mum waiting for nearly two weeks throughout the festive period before he made his entrance at the beginning of the new decade.
Lisa, of Langloan, told the Advertiser: “He was due on December 22, so I’d been going to be induced on New Year’s Day as I was 11 days overdue by then.
“I went into labour on Hogmanay; ever ything probably took about 20 hours from the first pain until Zachary arrived, but from when my waters broke at the hospital, everything happened quite quickly.”
She added: “It’s quite surprising that he’s the first baby of 2020 – all the family is excited that he’s here and he’s been getting lots of cuddles.
“At first I thought he’d be early and would arrive before Christmas; when that was over I thought maybe it would be Boxing Day, but after that I just expected to need to be induced.
“I didn’t think Zachary was going to come until then, but he then came a bit earlier on January 1 in the end.”
Lisa has an elder son, Sean, aged 11 – who is already enjoying helping to look after his younger sibling.
She added: “Zachary is doing fine – all he’s doing is sleep! Sean is a fantastic big brother already.
“He’s great with Zachary and loves the responsibility.”
