Head-butted female cop

-

COURT REPORTER

An Airdrie man who head-butted a female police officer has been sentenced to unpaid work.

Michael Morgan, 40, of Craigneuk Avenue, behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm by shouting and swearing and challenging police to a fight.

The offence happened at Hillfoot Road, Airdrie, on May 25 last year.

Airdrie Sheriff Court then heard how Morgan head-butted a female cop in the execution of her duty before attacking a male constable by seizing him on the body.

On the same day, and during the same incident, he then resisted arrest from the two officers by lashing out at them with his legs, struggled with them and seized their personal protective equipment.

Prosecutor Agnes Meek told the court that Morgan behaved in a threatening or abusive manner again on August 27 last year, at the car park at Airdrie Health Centre.

He attempted to gain access to the car of his former partner and stood in front of the car.

At the time of the offence he was on bail from Airdrie Sheriff Court.

Sheriff Walter Mercer told Morgan:“The community payback order I put you on previously for another offence is going well so I will allow it to continue and impose a new one with additional hours on this.”

The sheriff put Morgan on a community payback order and told him to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work, reduced from 45 hours because of his early plea; the order was a direct alternative to a fine.
