Man’s jaw broken in attack near pub
A young man suffered a broken jaw after being viciously kicked in the face jaw when he and a friend were subjected to a shocking “unprovoked” attack outside a Coatbridge pub.
The 20-year-old victim was on the town’s Main Street, near Locks Street, when a man ran from the opposite side of the street and punched his friend in the face.
As he bent down to help his pal, a second man came across the road and kicked him in the face.
The victim managed to make his own way to hospital, where he was treated for serious facial injuries including a broken jaw.
His friend – also 20 – was not seriously injured.
Police are hunting for the attacker and examining CCTV footage from the area.
Detective David Williamson of Coatbridge CID said: “As far as we are aware, this was a totally unprovoked attack in which this young man’s jaw was broken.
“He required extensive medical treatment and was only yesterday [Saturday, July
25] able to report the assault to police. At the moment, the attacker is only described as a white man in his early 20s.
“Officers are checking CCTV from the area which shows a large group of people outside the pub and the disturbance spilling on to the street.
“A number of cars and taxis can be seen having to swerve to avoid the disturbance so I would appeal to the drivers, especially those with dash-cams, to get in touch with police if they think that they may have information or footage that will help officers with their investigation.”
People with information about the attack, which took place at 11.15pm on July 18, can contact Coatbridge CID via 101, quoting reference number 3248/25/20, or provide details anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
