Mon­k­lands pupils have been con­grat­u­lated on their re­sults in High­ers, Na­tion­als and other qual­i­fi­ca­tions, de­spite the SQA furore.

North Lana r k s h i re ed­u­ca­tion con­vener Frank McNally praised their “hard work and ef­fort” along with the “ded­i­ca­tion and pro­fes­sion­al­ism of teach­ers”; in a year de­scribed by Derek Brown, the coun­cil’s ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor of ed­u­ca­tion, as “quite dif­fer­ent for so many rea­sons”.

Coun­cil­lor McNally said: “While this year’s ex­ams were af­fected by Covid-19, the achieve­ments of our young peo­ple are in no way di­min­ished.

“The suc­cesses of so many of our pupils re­flects the hard work and ef­fort they have put in through­out the aca­demic term – al­beit one which was cur­tailed by the health cri­sis.

“Their achieve­ments have been sup­ported by the ded­i­ca­tion and pro­fes­sion­al­ism of their teach­ers, along with the e n c o u rage­ment and un­der­stand­ing of their fam­i­lies.”

Mr Brown added: “This year has been quite dif­fer­ent for so many rea­sons.
