Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser
Have you got what it takes to be a volunteer befriender for Citizens Advice Bureau?
Airdrie Citizens Advice Bureau is looking for people to join its team as volunteer befrienders.
Anyone who is “a good listener, not quick to judge and reliable” is invited to put themselves forward.
Training and support will be provided so that people feel fully equipped and prepared for their “befriending responsibilities”.
A bureau spokesperson said: “We are looking for a commitment of one, two or three mornings or afternoons a week.
“The matching process will look at all the information gathered on the volunteer and the client so that personalities, interests and hobbies are all considered.
“Befriending may take place in the client’s home, going for a coffee, attending an activity tailored to the client’s personal needs and interests or attending an assessment appointment.
“There will be regular meetings between the volunteer co-ordinator and our team of befrienders.”
The spokesperson added: “As a befriender, your experience and opinions are invaluable to us.
“We are all committed to protecting the dignity and human rights of the vulnerable and socially isolated people in our community, therefore we very much feel that a team people-centred approach is the way forward.”
Volunteer befrienders will receive training and support.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer befriender with the bureau is asked to contact Amy Miles on 01236 754109 or amy. miles@ airdriecab.casonline.org.uk
