Tribute to ex-Airdrie chairman

Airdrieonians have paid tribute to former chairman David Smith after he passed away at the weekend.

Smith played a vital role in the Diamonds’ move from Broomfield to New Broomfield in 1998.

And the club’s current director of football, Stuart Millar, paid tribute to “a gentleman” who made a huge contribution to the club.

Millar said : “It’s very sad news. David was very much a gentleman.”

An Airdrie statement read: “David was well known amongst Airdrie fans. Our thoughts and condolences go to David’s family and friends at this sad time.”
