Rovers boss targets three more stars

-

Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid wants to bring in at least three more players ahead of the October 10 League 2 kick-off.

The Cliftonhill gaffer has identified targets, but said he will probably wait until pre-season before making his move.

He said: “I’m still a few short and I’m sure there will still be players out there looking for clubs.

“I’m still looking for probably three anyway, and hopefully we can get them in, bedded in with the squad in pre-season, all signed up and ready to go. “The luxury we have is that we can use young boys in the reserves as well, so I’m not overly worried about it, but we are still three short to boost the first-team squad.

“I have targets, so I’m just waiting to see how they develop over the coming weeks, but we’ll invite some trialists in to training as well, and it’s an opportunity for some boys to earn a contract.”

Reid wouldn’t be drawn into the circumstances that led to the Joint Response Group decreeing that training can’t start until August 24, but said there is light at the end of the tunnel with football on the horizon.

He said: “We’re not due back until the end of August anyway so it hasn’t really affected us.

“I understand how some people will be a bit upset about it, because other teams have different schedules, but it doesn’t directly affect us because we’re not back until the end of August or beginning of September.

“I’m just looking forward to getting back to playing football, because it has been a long, long time.

“It’s unusual, it’s the longest pre-season in the world for us, so I just want to get back playing football with the team.

“Hopefully we can get supporters back and enjoying the game again.

“The fixtures are out and the Betfred Cup is supposed to be starting at the beginning of October. At least we know when we’re back.

“It’s a wee bit difficult with it being 27 games this season, but I’d rather be playing 27 than no games.”
