Zany Zooey and Co hit lofty heights
Binge watch manically fun show
If you are in the mood for something to make you laugh out loud during these testing times, look no further than New Girl.
The show graced our TV screens for seven wonderful seasons on E4 a few years ago and is now available to binge on Netflix.
It stars Zooey Deschanel as Jessica who moves into a loft with bartender Nick ( Jake Johnson), advertising executive Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and former basketball player Winston (Lamorne Morris).
The pilot stars Damon Wayans Jnr as Coach but he was replaced in the series due to scheduling issues by Morris – until he makes a welcome return for a couple of seasons.
The cast, including Jess’ best friend CeCe (Hannah Simone), are quirky, cool and very much like a family, protecting and standing up for each other, often in humorously inappropriate ways.
The couples are the heart of the show with Jess and Nick’s will they- won’t they relationship reminiscent of Ross and Rachel in Friends and CeCe and Schmidt making an unlikely duo.
And the course of true love is never straightforward as there is a rollercoaster of everyday issues and bumps in the road for the gang to deal with.
The characters all grow up over the course of the show and learn what they want to do with their lives.
Deschanel, sister of Bones’ Emily, is a zany leading lady who has to mix looking out for her friends and students with navigating romance and her career and wardrobe choices.
A stand out late addition to proceedings is Nasim Pedrad ( Aly) as Winston’s cop partner and scenes showcasing Winston’s love for Furguson the cat are truly adorable.
Like Friends, this is a group of people you would really love to hang out with and while many of the storylines are predictable, you enjoy the journey getting there.
Oh, and fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will get a kick out of the crossover episode featuring some of the cast of that equally manically fun programme.
