Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser
Gran: by John O’Neil, Airdrie
Another year’s gone past
Another birthday celebrated
“Where has the time gone?”
Everyone asks
That velvet skin in the mirror
Doesn’t look velvet any more
And the teeth don’t look
So white as they once did
Although the body fails
The brain still lingers
And frustration builds
With every passing day
Until one day a total
Darkness overcomes
And a new world opens
Only unto her
To you she is no more
But to her, a new beginning
Her mental pain is gone
A new world lies ahead
And in this world That we’re not in For her The next world’s nearer And with a smile
She slips away
And we are left behind
