Diamonds’ bright idea for third kit

-

A bold new colour and a Homer Simpson aided launch earned a mixed response from Airdrie fans after the new third kit was revealed last week.

A teaser from The Simpsons was shared on the Diamonds ’Twitter before a cartoon design showing Thomas Robert and Griffin Sabatini styling a yellow strip.

The eye-catching top, shorts and socks, produced by Umbro and FN Teamwear, would look at home in Springfield as well as on the pitch in Monklands.

The controversial design has earned both praise and scorn from supporters ahead of the League One campaign.

After the reveal, one fan was delighted stating it “looks cool” and another calling the alternate strip “lovely.”

On Facebook, the bold choice was praised as a “belter” and another added they “actually loved it”, despite the surprising changes.

However, you can’t please everyone, with one punter dubbing it “diabolical” and quizzed “Are we Alloa?” before jokingly adding: “If we win games though then it can stay.”

Another added: “I think I’ll only really like it after we win a game wearing it.”

The Diamonds had previously worn similar colours in the 1980s but have traditionally played in white, red or black.

Fans will have to wait until at least October to see the Diamonds don the new gear, when the new League One and Betfred League Cup campaigns get underway.

The Diamonds kick-off on October 7 with a cup match at home to Alloa.
