McKeown in tribute to legend Rab
Coatbridge boxer Mark McKeown paid a touching tribute to local boxing legend Rab Bannan after his win over Levi Dunn.
The featherweight fighter stopped Dunn in the fourth round in Wakefield and wore a T-shirt with Bannan and‘RIP Amigo’on it after the victory.
It was the 26-year-old boxer’s first six-round fight and he started well, landing good head and body shots on a defensive Dunn before the referee called the contest.
McKeown, who fights out of Keir Hardie ABC in Newarthill, said:“I felt I had hurt him early on.
“He was moving quickly so he was a bit difficult to pin down but i felt I was wearing him down and starting to hurt him.“I think the decision of the ref was the right one. I am happy to have got the stoppage”
Coach Barry Clark was delighted with the win, which came despite the gym being in lockdown for most of the fight camp. He added:“We’re over the moon that Mark has got the win despite all of the restrictions.
“He didn’t have sparring and his usual training for at least a couple of months before the fight so it’s a real credit to him. We’ve got high hopes for his next fight now.”
