Cairn’s derby friendly win
Gartcairn warmed up for the new season with a 4-1 win over neighbours Cumbernauld United on Saturday.
Goals from Gary Harkins, Jamie Van Nuil, Steven Saunders and Gary Arbuckle gave Cairn a convincing win and gaffer Willie Kinniburgh was delighted with the strides they’ve made in pre-season.
He said: “that was our fourth game and we’ve got progressively better with each one. Even although we’ve been beaten by Lowland League opposition in two of them, we’ve played well.
“We played Shotts and then Cumbernauld, who are more realistic in terms of teams we should be playing – should this league ever start – so it was encouraging to see us do so well against a side like Cumbernauld.”
Kinniburgh added: “harkins is a quality player and I’m sure he’ll score many a goal this season. We just need to try and get the best out of him.
“He is a high profile player, so any teams he’s up against he will warrant extra attention from them.”
