Reid rages as fans set to be locked out

-

Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid has blasted the Scottish Government as lower league football looks set to return without fans.

The gaffer was scathing in his verdict as supporters look set to be locked out of the League Two opener at Cliftonhill against Stenhousemuir on October 17.

He feels the lockdown restrictions don’t make sense when applied to stadiums.

Reid told the Advertiser: “i don’t see why teams in the lower leagues, and even the Premiership, can’t have a certain amount of numbers into grounds.

“You can be sitting outside in the fresh air, well away from people, and clubs aren’t stupid, they would put all the restrictions in place for people to get the fans in.

“I’m not buying the argument that fans can’t get into stadiums.

“The fans want to get back and see their team play and create a wee bit of an atmosphere.

“It’s a totally different game without the fans, even watching the English Premier League teams; it’s a bit false for me.

“The games aren’t enjoyable to watch because of it.

“The Scottish clubs need the income from fans to survive, it is their lifeline.

“I don’t see how we can’t have that. I hope they are still talking with the Scottish Government to try and sort this out; they need to do something.”

He added: “october 17 is the first league game and I’m hoping the SPFL can have a good conversation with the government and the SFA to allow fans into the games.

“I can sit across from people in a restaurant and walk into a supermarket, but can’t sit 10 feet away in an outdoor stadium?

“Give me a break; you can definitely have fans into Cliftonhill.

“Fans have put in a lot of work over the lockdown and backed the club all the way so it would be nice to see them rewarded.”
