Wave of light helps bring comfort

-

Coatbridge charity Baby Loss Retreat is arranging special events to mark the annual week of commemorative events.

Its founders have arranged to display banners in the town throughout baby loss awareness week, which begins on Friday – and will culminate with a poignant“wave of light” ceremony, taking place at St Augustine’s Church.

The service next Thursday (October 15), is for all those who have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death, and will be open to 50 socially-distanced attendees, with others able to follow the event live online.

Participants will be able to tie a ribbon onto the fence outside the church and light a candle inside, while the church itself will be illuminated in pink and blue to mark the event.

Baby Loss Retreat was founded by Shawhead couple Bryan and Julie Morrison, and provides support groups and vital therapeutic breaks for parents who have suffered the loss of their child.

Julie told the Advertiser: “wave of light is for everybody who has lost a baby. It’s a worldwide event where people will light a candle to remember.

“We can only have 50 in the church for this year’s service but it’s nice that we’re able to have it and bring people together.”

She added: “we’re also marking baby loss awareness week by having banners put up on bridge for people to see at Shawhead flyover and near Faraday retail park.”

The wave of light service on October 15 takes place at St Augustine’s at 6pm. Email babylossretreat@hotmail.com to book a place, or contact the charity via their Facebook page.
