More of the same with updated PES

PES 2021 Various ●●●● ●

It’s that time of year again when the Pro Evolution and FIFA franchises emerge from preseason looking to claim the title of best footie simulator.

However, much like the actual football calendar, the arrival of the latest PES version has been affected by the worldwide pandemic that seems to affect every single facet of life.

Probably the biggest clue lies in the fact this is billed as a season update, which is fine I suppose if you gave last year’s a miss and got bored of the last FIFA.

So, to Konami’s credit, they have marketed the game at a very reasonable £25 (priced because of the game’s 25th anniversary).

Last year’s release was plagued by a number of problems and it needed several updates to finally bring the game up to speed, however the season update gets off to a flier.

Of course, if you’re a PES fan, then you will enjoy the slower, more methodical, approach play and realistic in-game dynamics.

For SPFL fans, there is plenty to enjoy, with Celtic and Rangers updated squads and shirts there as well as the grounds (which took a while to appear last year).

Again, the lack of licences are in plain sight but every PES fan has become used to the edit function by now but all the usual Master League stuff and create a legend is there, so there’s no surprises — good nor bad really.

It’s a shame we didn’t get full-on PES 2021 experience, but the update ticks enough boxes.
