Grehan strengthens Gartcairn

-

Willie Kinniburgh says signing veteran striker Martin Grehan will provide excellent competition for places at Gartcairn, while helping to bring on some of the club’s younger players.

And he says he’s still in the market to boost his squad to make sure they’re ready for the start of the West of Scotland League season.

Kinniburgh is delighted to have brought former Motherwell, Partick Thistle and Arbroath striker Grehan, 35, to MTC Park.

He said: “martin’s an experienced striker. I played with him at Motherwell and Partick Thistle, so I know him well, he’s a good pro and he will help the younger boys as well, so he’s a good sort and an excellent goal-scorer.

“It’s healthy competition to have, and the squad is coming together well. We’ve got a couple of players that we’re still looking at and thinking about possibly bringing in.

“I’m still unsure about how these subs are going to work, if it’s going to be seven on the bench then we need to fill that and utilise that.

“We have to utilise that to the best of our ability, rather than not using them or having boys there who aren’t capable of coming on – every player is going to have something that they’re going to offer.”

Kinniburgh added:“all going well the season starts in three weeks, so we’ve got to get it right for then, and the next two games will be crucial to try and nail down how we’re going to be and how we’re going to play.

“You need a minimum of six games to get back to any sort of level that you were at pre-lockdown.”
