‘Stick with it to save lives’ urge politicians
Airdrie’s politicians are urging locals to “stick with”the area’s heightened tier four coronavirus restrictions, to help reduce local infection rates and offer the hope of“some sort of normality by Christmas”.
Neil Gray and Alex Neil agreed the current lockdown, which requires the closure of all hospitality and nonessential retail until December 11 in North Lanarkshire, is“very disappointing”.
Mr Neil, the town’s MSP, said:“this isn’t what anyone was hoping for, and it will undoubtedly be challenging.
“We need to ensure that local businesses forced to close get access to the additional funding announced by the Scottish Government – and I am also calling on the government to introduce additional testing in schools, hospitals and care homes, which is crucial if we are to make progress in easing restrictions.”
He added:“i’m sure we can all agree it’s vitally important that we get the number of cases under control as quickly as possible to protect our health service coming into winter, and protect our friends, families, and loved ones from becoming unwell.
“I am urging constituents to stay at home and remain vigilant to help halt the spread of the virus – this will hopefully boost the prospects of easing restrictions and some sort of normality by Christmas time.”
Constituency colleague Neil Gray MP told how he“understands how frustrated people must be feeling”but emphasised the importance of complying with the measures.
He said:“it’s hard and disappointing for us all, but we know it is to save lives.
“I’m asking everyone to stick to these new measures – and hopefully we will be able to have a merry Christmas and happy new year.”
