Charity unveils virtual tour of new town hub

- JEAN WARD

A charity has released a virtual tour to launch its new state-of-the-art hub in Airdrie during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cornerstone’s North Lanarkshire Community Support and Supported Living branches launched the video tour of their multi-purpose facility in Hallcraig Street in order to promote it throughout lockdown.

The video, which was produced by Clyde Property Bothwell and Filmworx, takes people on a guided tour of the new building and its modern facilities.

Robyn Birrell and Andrew Mcinnes, branch leaders for North Lanarkshire’s Supported Living and Community Support services respectively, said: “We are very grateful to Clyde Property Bothwell and Filmworx for their kind donation in producing a video tour of our new hub for us to share with the local community whilst we are in lockdown.”

The new facility offers accessible training spaces, offices, conference space, breakout and meeting rooms, rest areas and a kitchen to provide care and support to people with disabilities in the community.

Robyn explained: “Moving into our lovely new hub is a huge step forward for Cornerstone in North Lanarkshire.

“The central location increases our visibility and gives us many more opportunities to share what we do with the local community. We are now on a busy main road and our increased local presence has already got many people talking, asking who we are and what we do.”

The organisation moved from their former Wellwynd site in August last year.

Robyn said: “It’s safe to say, making the move from our old hub at One Wellwynd during a pandemic was certainly not without its challenges.

However, thanks to our administration, community support, supported living, finance and IT colleagues all pulling together, the move has been a great success.”

The team aim to create a welcoming environment ; offering training to front-line workers, from inviting the people they support to pop in for a cup of tea and a catch up, to hosting special events to bring the community together.

“It will open up new options and activities for the people we support and their families, making a real difference to their lives,“said Robyn.

While much of this is on hold due to ongoing restrictions, staff remain positive about their new space and continue to work in socially distant ways.

And despite remaining closed, plans are under way for an alternative virtual celebration to mark its official opening.

The charity also ran a competition to name rooms within the facility, with the Scottish Islands chosen as the winnng theme in a creative contest.
