Mcdonald’s staff map out a meaty donation
Staff at Mcdonald’s in Airdrie put their best foot forward to win a challenge involving colleagues from across Scotland, raising thousands of pounds for a good cause into the bargain.
Workers from the fast-food restaurant at the town’s retail park, as well as those at the Coatbridge branch and across Scotland, took part in the company’s Map the Mac virtual fundraiser.
They were asked to walk, run, cycle or swim a combined 1100 miles, representing the round-trip distance from Ronald Mcdonald House in Glasgow via every Mcdonald’s branch in Scotland.
Airdrie’s team members topped the leaderboard by finishing the race first and raising nearly £5200 in just six weeks – the highest total from a single branch.
Julian Rumsey from the branch told the Advertiser: “I’m thrilled with my team’s efforts during the Map the Mac challenge.
“It’s been a brilliant effort from everyone and I’m so proud of the positive difference we’ve been able to make to support such a wonderful charity.
“My restaurant teams and I have always been passionate about supporting our local community and try to organise fundraising throughout the year.”
With more than 1800 staff from 78 restaurants taking part, the charity initiative saw participants cover more than 85,000 miles and raised a combined £74,425.25 for the cause.
Ronald Mcdonald House provides “home away from home” support to families whose children are patients at the neighbouring children’s hospital.
Challenge organiser Stephanie Beglin added: “The money raised will be life-changing for many families of children being treated at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow and other hospitals in the west of Scotland.
“We’re blown away by the commitment of the Mcdonald’s franchisees and employees across Scotland; following such a difficult year due to the pandemic, seeing so many get involved and support us with donations is fantastic, and we’d like to thank everyone who got involved.”
