Colts learn schedule as co-boss steps down
Cumbernauld Colts have learned their fixtures for the new Lowland League season, which will see James Orr take sole charge of the side after co-boss Craig Mckinlay stepped down.
The Colts kick-off on July 17 away to Vale of Leithen, looking to build on their 14th place finish in last season’s curtailed campaign.
The schedule for the 2021/22 campaign was unveiled on Tuesday and clubs in the fifth tier now know what lies ahead, as they hope to play a campaign to a finish for the first time since 2019.
Covid has curtailed the past two seasons and last term Kelty Hearts pipped East Kilbride to the title on a points per game basis, before winning promotion to League Two through the pyramid play-offs.
Following their opener with Vale, Colts then host Bonnyrigg Rose on July 21 and Gala Fairydean Rovers on July 24, followed by a trip to Dalbeattie Star on July 28.
The hectic start to the campaign continues with a visit to East Stirlingshire on July 31.
Colts have been led by co-managers since their first season in the Lowland League in 2015, but Orr will take sole charge after Mckinlay stepped down to spend more time with his family.
As a duo, the pair led Colts to two top six finishes in the division and in 2018 they beat Selkirk in the Lowland League Cup final to deliver the Broadwood club’s first piece of silverware.
