Treasure summer fun at park

- IAN BUNTING

North and South Lanarkshire councils have launched a treasure trail app game to offer summer fun in the area around Strathclyde Country Park.

The new app was unveiled on National Clean Air Day.

After downloading the app, users will follow a trail on their phone, answering questions at landmarks around the Hamilton Palace grounds and Strathclyde Country Park.

Once all 13 questions have been answered, participants will submit their entry on the app.

All entries will then be entered into a prize draw, where five winners will be selected at random and each will win £100 in gift vouchers for the local Halfords store.

Funding for the project has come from Scottish Government Air Quality Action Plan to encourage more sustainable forms of transport in an effort to improve the local air quality in our towns and communities.

Councillor John Anderson, chair of community and enterprise resources, said: “We want to encourage more walking, cycling, wheeling and scooting for fun in the hope that this will transcend into everyday journeys as people are reminded how much they enjoy it.

“The game phase for the app will run over the summer holidays and will finish on August 31, meaning that everyone, young and old, can enjoy taking part right through the summer holidays.

“I would encourage everyone to download the app WALKCYCLE4AIR free of charge from the Apple App Store or Google Play and throw themselves into some happy treasure-trailing.”

Andrew Mcpherson, head of regulatory services and waste solutions at North Lanarkshire Council, added: “The new app is a great way to learn more about Strathclyde Country Park and the surrounding area while you’re walking or cycling this summer.

“You can complete the treasure trail in one day or spread the fun over a few days, so it’s ideal for anyone to enjoy.

“For families looking for ideas to keep the children entertained during the school holidays, the trail is an ideal activity.”
