Watchfor restrictions onthea8
Lane restrictions will be in place on the A8 eastbound and westbound carriageways between Shawhead and Eurocentral Junctions for around six weeks for bridge investigation works.
Road users are advised that the A8 between Shawhead Junction and Eurocentral Junction will be reduced to one lane on both the eastbound and westbound carriageways from Sunday, August 8.
The single lane closures will be in place 24 hours day, seven days a week with a 40 mph speed restriction in place for the duration of the works to ensure the safety of road workers and road users.
These temporary restrictions have been scheduled over three phases to minimise disruption to road users as much as possible while investigative works are carried out in the vicinity of the Carnbroe Rail Bridge.
The three phases of traffic management will be:
Phase 1 – Sunday 8 to Sunday, August 22: A8 eastbound between Shawhead Junction and Eurocentral Junction.
Phase 2 – Friday, August 20 to Sunday, September 5: A8 westbound between Eurocentral Junction and Shawhead Junction.
Phase 3 – Friday, September 3, to Wednesday, September 15, following completion of Phase 2: A8 eastbound and westbound between Eurocentral Junction and Shawhead Junction.
The A8 eastbound off-slip and on-slip roads at Carnbroe Junction will remain open during these works.
A spokesperson for Transport Scotland said: “These works are to maintain the integrity and safety of this route.
“The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services and North Lanarkshire Council.
“All works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.”
