Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser

Fingers crossed for this famed eatery

-

Like everyone else across Monklands the Advertiser team was absolutely stunned to wake up to the news about the devastating fire that ripped through Guidis last Wednesday morning.

It was hard to believe what had happened and as pictures of the horrific blaze and its aftermath came in our first thoughts were with the restaurant’s owners and staff.

Thankfully, there were no injuries as a result of the fire, but its destructive impact will be felt for a long time to come.

Airdrie MSP Neil Gray labelled Guidis“an Airdrie institution”and we second that viewpoint.

Members of the Advertiser team have been fortunate enough to dine in the beloved Italian eatery and everything from the delicious food and wonderful decor to the kindness of the friendly team of staff ensured many a memorable evening.

Sadly fire doesn’t take anything like this into account when it begins its path of destruction and it will be a while at least before we can all enjoy a mouthwatering meal in Guidis again. But we are delighted to hear the determined owners declare that they “will be back”and it sounds like they will do everything in their power to get the business back on its feet.

Well done too to everyone who has donated to the fundraising campaign in aid of the owners and staff; it clearly means a lot to them.

There’s no denying the heartbreaking blow caused by last week’s blaze, but with the Guidis team and members of the public all pulling together with infectious vigour, we’re sure the iconic restaurant will be cooking up a storm once again.
