Dig deep into ‘pawkets’ for second annual walk

- IAN BUNTING

The Beatson Cancer Charity is inviting Monklands dog-lovers to take the lead and raise funds for Scotland’s leading cancer research centre with a“pawsitively uplifting event”.

The organisation is “delighted” to announce its Paw Walk is back for a second year and is calling on the area’s residents to “dig deep into their pawkets and make this year the ulti-mutt fundraising experience to share with your four-legged friends”.

The £10 entry to the walk will include a doggie bag filled with goodies, a branded pet bandana and a Beatson t-shirt.

Excitingly, your pooch could also become the furry face of the Beatson as the charity will be on the lookout for their next official Beatson Ambassadog, who will take over from Comet, from East Kilbride, who won last year’s competition with his owner Claire Curran.

The Ambassadog supports the charity at fundraising events from time to time and helped promote 2022’s Beatson Virtual Santa Dash.

The charity would love to be tagged into your pictures on the day and will share the most “rebarkable” photos and tag those who have helped raise funds by getting involved.

Charlene Low, corporate partnership fundraiser, told the Advertiser: “Since we had to cancel many of our events due to the pandemic, we wanted to find a fun way to fundraise whilst respecting the social distancing arrangements.

“Last year’s event was such a success, we’re excited to be running it again.

“Daily walks with my Beagle, Ditsy, have been hugely beneficial for me during lockdown and I know many of our patients feel the same especially during treatment.

“We are all thrilled with our new dog tartan items so we think the Paw Walk is the perfect event and will be very popular raising much needed funds for our charity. Our supporters go above and beyond for us – we can’t wait to see the photos of them out and about in yellow.”

Owners are advised to be quick to book a place as the first 50 sign-ups will receive a round of app-paws and a goodie bag courtesy of pet retailer and supplier, Creature Comforts.

Martin Cawley, CEO of the Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “Last year’s Paw Walk was a great success, and we really hope that dog-lovers across Lanarkshire can help us deliver an even bigger event this year.”
