Murray blasts Airdrie as Bairns take spoils

AIRDRIEONIANS .................................. 1 FALKIRK ................................................. 2

Ian Murray fumed at individual mistakes as Airdrie’s six game unbeaten run against Falkirk ended with a 2-1 defeat.

Despite controlling the majority of the first half, the Diamonds conceded two goals in a crazy three minute spell.

Falkirk broke from an Airdrie corner as Callum Morrison opened the scoring on 28 minutes before Aidan Keena added a quick-fire second after the hosts carelessly gave away possession in their own half to leave Murray frustrated.

“The individual mistakes need to stop,” he admitted. “It’s individual mistakes again because we were in a really safe position at that point.

“It was our corner, we nearly scored but we found ourselves 2-0 down.

“We played very well at times but, again, moments in games changed it. We weren’t dominating but we were on top and we lost a really poor goal.

“We quickly lose another one from poor decision making and it has cost us the game. It’s individual mistakes again because we were in a really safe position at that point.”

It’s not the first time this season that Airdrie have been guilty of conceding goals in quick succession.

Dumbarton scored two goals in seven minutes last weekend as the Diamonds surrendered a two-goal lead and Murray admits it simply can’t continue.

He added: “We’ve lost goals in really quick succession. It happened against Queen of the South as well, let’s not paper over the cracks because that’s included.

“The players need to understand, certain players, not all of them, that moments are huge and you have to recover very quickly.

“When you lose a goal and you’re on top then you need to be secure at the back.”

Gabby Mcgill pulled a goal back for Airdrie just five minutes into the second half but they failed to truly test Robbie Mutch for the remaining 40 minutes.

And Murray disagreed when asked if they fell out of the game.

“I wouldn’t say we dropped out of the game because we tried our best to create openings,” he said.

“We scored a goal and calmed the game down. We had waves of attack against them so I don’t agree with that statement.

“Could we have worked the goalkeeper more? Yes, but there were a couple of things in the box that didn’t go our way.

“We recovered well in the second half and it was agonising trying to get that second goal.”
